The Weekly Photo Challenge this week is ‘Escape’

We have some rain lately. This one is taken from the train in Voorschoten.
When it is grey and wet outside, why not read a book to escape the world?
This is my last ‘Escape’ entry: my escape from escape?

The Weekly Photo Challenge this week is ‘Escape’

This is the summer palace of the Dalai Lama in Lhasa. He escaped from here to India.
A sadistic place to visit because of the behaviour of the Chinese staff over viewing the Tibetan monks that keep the place in shape.
Everything a tourist does against the rules is blamed on them; like taking pictures in the quarters of the Dalai Lama.
The same is done in Potala Palace.. There you are forced to walk anti clockwise through the palace.
While the Tibetans walk clockwise around their holy places.
A cruel way misusing power.

The Weekly Photo Challenge this week is ‘Escape’

It is early morning and just after breakfast we walk the streets of Lhasa to Potala Palace.
We arrived the day before, and our hotel is next to Jokhang Temple.
Geting into the main street we see a – for us – new concept: personnel of big stores being drilled before starting work!
For them there apparently is no escape to that!
I prefer to start the working day with a cup of coffee and a good talk to the colleagues!

We have some rain lately. This one is taking from the train in Voorschoten.
Getting home dry but knowing that there is a part of the journey by bicycle.
Dry now and wet later. No escape from rain?

The Weekly Photo Challenge this week is ‘Escape’

Olü Deniz (Turkish for dead sea) is a laguna in the south west of Turkey.
My first visit was in 1983 and the area still unspoiled from tourists.
There was just a motel and a camping.
Nature impressive, a beautiful coastline with sand beach and forests.
A wonderful haven to chill and relax.

For different religions temples, churches or mosques are places for praying. A place to talk to God.
They are an escape from the busy social world, and a haven for reflection.

This is a modern mosque in Ankara in Turkey.

Colleville-sur-Mer: a Story of my Life

When in Normandy I try to visit the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial at Colleville-sur-Mer.
It is one of the places on the coast of Normandy that keeps the stories alive of the landing of June 6 1944.
It is a place of tranquillity and reflection to me. Not particularly a place of sadness or grieve.
A place that makes me aware about what life offers me. And what people have done to give me that life.
